MichelinMan2.jpgMichelin has released its 2011 guide to Germany and has promoted a record five establishments to two-star-status.

The new additions, which bring the total number of two-star restaurants in Germany to 23, include two establishments near Hamburg, Sterneck and La Belle Epoque, as well as Fährhaus on the island of Sylt, Villa Rothschild near Frankfurt and the Park Restaurant at the Brenner's Park hotel in Baden-Baden.

Meanwhile 205 restaurants in Germany now hold one Michelin star, with 26 establishments celebrating their first star this year.

Germany now boasts a total of 237 starred restaurants including nine holding Michelin's top accolade of three stars, more than anywhere else in Europe bar France.

The number of Bib Gourmands - restaurants offering good quality cuisine below €35 - rose by 66 to 386.

Last month, Michelin announced that its director, Jean-Luc Naret, would be stepping down at the end of this year.
