From Michelin to Morrisons - chefs cashing in?

money-bags.jpgCelebrity endorsements are nothing new, particularly when it comes to slebby chefs and supermarkets.

Jamie Oliver was apparently paid £1.2m a year to be the face of Sainsbury's until after 11 years they either dropped him for someone cheaper (rumoured to be model-turned-baker Lorraine Pascale) or he quit to devote more time to charity work.

It obviously depends who you ask.

Heston Blumenthal and Delia Smith's association with Waitrose has created a new eBay trade in puddings (well, Heston has) and Marco Pierre White is the face of Knorr stock cubes and Bernard Matthews.

This week has seen a fresh wave of chef whites hit the ad breaks. First there's the 60 second Morrisons commercial featuring not one, not two, not even three but four culinary wizards! Hang on, one of them is Aldo Zilli.

GBM-logo.jpgIt's that time of year again and here at Satellite Dishes we have been hearing lots of rumblings as to who will be the chefs competing in the next series.

This will be the seventh series of the BBC 2 show which has seen top chefs win to cook for the Queen on her 80th birthday, a banquet to be held at the Gerkin in London, hosted by Heston Blumenthal, a celebratory dinner for British troops returning from Afghanistan and last year a feast for sharing with the community.

This year, we believe the theme to encompass being the best that you can be and throw in an Olympics element to coincide with London 2012 games.

The chefs taking part so far...

Northern Ireland

Chris Bell - River Room restaurant, Galgorm Resort and Spa
Chris Fearon - Deanes at Queens Head, Belfast
Niall McKenna, James Street South, Belfast
